We start this walk next to the shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza in the village of Las Vegas. This building, of huge importance both in religious and cultural heritage terms, has a single bell tower. Make sure you take a look at the pine tree growing next to it.
We leave the chapel square, where during the Santa Ana celebrations on July 26 people dance the traditional Danza de las Varas, or Dance of the Sticks, and we wander through Las Vegas until we reach La Cruz, where the road becomes cobbled. This is where the historic Camino Real begins which connects this village with Granadilla.
In La Cruz de la Magdalena we climb up along the ridge of the Pestanas in order to later cross the gullies of la Galería and La Mula. After this we arrive at La Higuera, a traditional hamlet which has the remains of a traditional oven made of roof tiles along with various farm buildings surrounded by cultivated fields of volcanic sand.
We walk up along a cobbled road which takes us directly to the village of Los Hibrones, which is important in terms of the conservation of various aspects of traditional village life – ovens, barns for farm animals, traditional houses and even a threshing yard and a drying area for figs. It is not hard to imagine how life was here, even a few decades ago, when people depended on the land for their sustenance and were surrounded by valuable countryside and forests.
From here, the path continues to climb up between abandoned cultivated fields surrounded by Canary Island pine forest. The route finishes at the point where it joins the PR-TF 83.1 in La Abejera, where you can still see a splendid threshing yard which was used to thresh cereals in times gone by.
