Las Vegas is an emblematic historic hamlet that grew up around the shrine of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza in colonial times, and where a number of interesting architectural elements have been conserved along with a rich cultural heritage.
The walk departs from the hamlet and continues upwards through farmed areas where you will see ditches and small channels which are to transport the water required for irrigation. There are also some interesting remains of cave-houses.
Gradually you enter a pine forest and climb up through the gully of La Pasada until you arrive at the impressive vertical rock face of the Risco del Muerto where, if you want, you can take a detour along a path to the climbing zone before rejoining this route higher up.
Another element of the cultural life of the Canary Islands that you can see on this walk is the Era de La Abejera, a threshing yard where the cereal crops that were cultivated in this area in the past were threshed and winnowed.
Once you arrive at the Madre del Agua Trail, which goes to Barranco del Río, the walk ends but you could continue on the PR-TF 83, which climbs up from Granadilla to the geologically peculiar and impressive area known as the “Paisaje Lunar” (Moon Landscape). Once you arrive there, you can choose whether to return via the circular route PR-TF 72 towards Vilaflor, or to ascend the peak on the GR-131.
